The MIAMI Institute For Age Management and Intervention to distribute LATISSE(TM) — First and Only Treatment Approved by the FDA for Hypotrichosis of Eyelashes

Posted by: MIAMI Institute @ 11:13 am  — January 30, 2009

Miami, Florida - January, 2009 – The Miami Institute for Age Management and Intervention  Announces It Will Stock LATISSE TM) — New Prescription Product Which Increases Length, Thickness and Darkness of Eyelashes. The Miami Institute for Age Management and Intervention  today announced  that it will stock LATISSE(TM) (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03%. Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. LATISSE(TM) is the first and only science-based treatment approved by the FDA to enhance eyelash prominence as measured by increases in length, thickness and darkness of eyelashes.

“LATISSE(TM) is the first product available proven to enhance eyelashes and thus offers many patients an alternative to other therapies. Longer thicker and darker lashes add significantly to rejuvenative procedures we can perform around the eye area”, says Julio F. Gallo, M.D., F.A.C.S,  The Miami Institute for Age Management and Intervention’s Medical Director . Available only through a doctor, LATISSE(TM) is a once-daily prescription treatment applied to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator. LATISSE(TM) users can expect to experience longer, fuller and darker eyelashes in as little as eight weeks, with full results in 16 weeks. To maintain effect, continued treatment with LATISSE(TM) is required. If use of LATISSE(TM) is discontinued, eyelashes will gradually return to where they were prior to treatment over a period of weeks to months (average eyelash hair cycle).

Dr Robert L. Simons receives prestigious Richard C. Webster Award, honoring a lifetime achievement in facial plastic surgery

Posted by: MIAMI Institute @ 1:10 pm  — January 15, 2009

Dr Robert L. Simons speaks at 25th Anniversary of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, Phoenix, Arizona

1/15/09 - A History of Modern Rhinoplasty (Featured speaker)
1/16/09 - Advanced Rhinoplasty Techniques

Dr. Simons will be recognized for his lifetime achievement in facial plastic surgery as the recipient of the prestigious Richard C. Webster Award.

With over 40 years of experience, Robert L. Simons, M.D., board-certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology, is one the nation’s most renowned facial plastic surgeons.

Dr. Simons earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College. He completed an internship in surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia and a residency in otolaryngology at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, New York.

With his extensive training and experience, Dr. Simons is hailed as a super-specialist in Rhinoplasty.  When it comes to his approach, great emphasis is placed on the initial patient consultation and the goal of preserving as much tissue as possible, ensuring a natural appearance that is symmetrically enhanced. In addition, Dr. Simons favors the endo-nasal method of surgery (i.e., surgery without external incisions). “Rhinoplasty is the premier surgery,” states Dr. Simons, “Through this one central procedure, patients can experience tremendous overall improvement, both functionally and aesthetically.”

Dr. Simons was one of the early advocates of sub-specialty training and it comes as no surprise that teaching became an integral part of his professional career. He became a young committee member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and an active teaching member at the Goldman Course in the late 60’s. His abiding interest in the growth of the AAFPRS is evidenced by the time he has devoted to elective offices, first as Southern Regional Vice-President (1975–76), National Program Chairman (1977), and then as AAFPRS treasurer (1979-83), before assuming Presidency in 1985-86. While he held the office of President at the Academy, Dr. Simons emphasized the need for a stronger future identity of the specialty. Subsequently, an endowment program was initiated, the Founders Club was organized and the Past President’s Club established. In addition, he edited a book for the Academy, “Coming of Age: A History of the AAFPRS” in 1988.

Over the years, Dr. Simons has worked with equal fervor to ensure the success of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPR). Following his role as secretary in 1988, he served as President of the ABFPR from 1991-1995. In 2006, he co-edited and authored “Here to Stay”, which chronicles the events that led the AAFPRS to establish the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) in 1986. The book also illustrates the ABFPRS’s remarkable journey to win recognition as equivalent to primary boards of the ABMS in every state that has set standards for such equivalence.

A noted author of numerous articles and chapters on various aspects of facial plastic surgery with special expertise in Rhinoplasty, and the recipient of countless prestigious awards, Dr. Simons frequently presents at medical meetings and symposiums in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Simons served as director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine for more than 25 years. Currently, he holds the position of voluntary clinical professor of otolaryngology at the medical school. Dr. Simons operates out of the Miami Institute for Age Management & Intervention and holds the esteemed position of Medical Board Chairman at the Institute.
