Dr. Gallo Sets Trend in Cosmetic Surgery with “The Liquid Face Lift”

As anyone who lives in South Florida can tell you –looking good is as much a part of the way of life as sipping a Mohito on Ocean Drive. But today, the latest trend is not the “Extreme Make-Over” concept as was the case years ago with shows such as “The Swan” and others transforming ugly ducklings into beauty pageant beauties. The hottest trend now is more towards the less invasive, non-surgical approach.

Julio Gallo, M.D., F.A.C.S, Medical Director of the MIAMI Institute for Age Management & Intervention located at The Four Seasons Hotel & Towers in Miami is offering his patients a modern approach to managing the aging process. “As we age, the face looses volume. With the liquid face lift approach, in about an hour we can restore a patients youthful appearance without surgery or any real discomfort.”

The term “Liquid Face-Lift” was coined because it uses facial fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse–injected into facial lines, lips and tear troughs to replace the volume cause by aging. The results can be seen immediately, cost a fraction of  surgery and have no real down time. “It is not unrealistic to take ten years off a patients face,” says Dr. Gallo, but adds, “Of course, this is not permanent. Regular maintenance is required to retain your new look. However, it is a viable option to surgery and my patients are very happy with the results.”

Dr. Gallo along with Dr. Adam Rubinstein are hosting a special ” Incredible Injectable Days” promotion August 20th and 21st 2008 at the Miami Institute and is offering 30% to all patients to experience the procedure.

In the first of a series, Dr. Julio Gallo, Medical Director of the Miami Institute and noted skin care expert offers tips to help transform your skin.

Every day I see patients who are anxious to change something about themselves. It may be a bump in the nose, or eyes that are beginning to show the signs of age. Interestingly enough, many of these patients are unaware of how to achieve beautiful, healthy skin to go along with the surgical result they so desire. In this series–to which I plan to evolve into a book on the topic , I will address common areas of skin problems and my comprehensive plan that anyone, anywhere can incorporate into their daily lives to achieve that supple, youthful look that comes with skin that is clean, toned and in correct balance.

The first thing you have to understand is that your skin is your bodies largest organ. It keeps us warm and cold and protects us from the elements. For that reason it is also left exposed to the elements. To have the very best skin you can possibly have, follow these simple guidelines:

1) Always wear a mositurizer with sungreen with an SPF of at least 15. every morning of every day–and do not forget your chest and hands. Even a few minutes a day here and there running to and from your car or running errands can amount to hours of unprotected skin.

2) Drink plenty of water. In my opinion the old adage of “8 glasses a day” just isn’t enough. We need far more than that–especially in South Florida. Always begin your day with a large glass of fresh spring water.

3) Get plenty of rest. Sleep is the most important factor in healthy skin. It is when our bodies is replenishing and restoring itself.

4) If you smoke–stop and if your drink, cut down. I know it is easier said then done but these two factors can wreck havoc on even the most sophisticated skin care routine.

5) Add fish to your diet, or take fish oil capsules every day. Use a respected brand with Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids. It will make your skin supple and radiant.

These suggests may seem “old hat” but I can assure you that if you adopt all of them into your daily routine today, you will begin to see results in just a few days.

Cosmetic Laser Giant Thermage to Buy Reliant Technology.

Posted by: MIAMI Institute @ 4:46 pm  — July 20, 2008

Thermage Inc., which makes an anti-aging skin tightening laser device, said Monday it will buy laser skin resurfacing company Reliant Technologies Inc.—makers of the popular Fraxel laser for $87.5 million in cash and stock in a move to boost sales opportunities in the U.S. and abroad.

Thermage will pay $25 million in cash and issue 23.6 million shares, valued at $62.5 million based on the company’s closing stock price Thursday. Thermage also will assume $7 million in debt and provide $5 million of bridge financing to Mountain View, Calif.-based Reliant.

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter, subject to Thermage shareholder approval. The boards of both companies have approved the transaction, and Thermage stockholders holding more than 33 percent of the company’s outstanding shares have agreed to vote in favor of the deal.

The new Thermage Inc. will remain in Hayward, Calif., and will continue to be led by Stephen J. Fanning as chairman, president and chief executive. Current Thermage Chief Financial Officer Jack Glenn will serve as CFO and Reliant Chief Technology Officer Len DeBenedictis will serve as tech chief.

Thermage Chief Operating Officer Clint Carnell will serve as COO of the combined company. The board will include six current Thermage directors and three selected by Reliant Technologies’ current board.

Reliant Technologies makes the Fraxel laser systems for treatment of fine lines, scars and skin pigmentation. The company generated about $72.5 million in revenue for the year ended March 31, with 20 percent of sales generated from disposable tips. About 71 percent of Thermage’s revenue during the same time came from sales of disposable tips and other consumables.

Miami facial plastic surgeon Dr. Julio Gallo, Medical Director of The Miami Institute for Age Management & Intervention says the deal is timely because his practice is seeing a surge of non surgical procedures and has been conducting independent trials using several different lasers as a cutting edge type of “laser cocktail”. Says Dr. Gallo, “Any one laser; whether Thermage or Fraxel would have satisfactory results. But used together—in various levels offer patients a dramatic alternative to, or in conjunction with a plastic surgery procedure.” Adds Stephen A. Watson, CEO & Founder of Miami Institute, “Laser technology is like the computer field. It is constantly evolving. This is why we must stay ahead of the fray; offering our patients the very latest advances. It is what sets us apart.”
